What you'll learn in this expert session

Whilst good anti-smoking campaigns have been successful in reducing the incidence of Lung cancer in Australia, it is still the deadliest cancer in the country. Lung cancer contributes significantly to the burden of disease and years of life lost around the world. Professor Boyer highlights how early diagnosis and treatment is crucial to the best outcomes and cure of the disease. We also learn how, even in patients with advanced disease, new and improved treatments are increasing years of survival beyond that which was previously possible.

About the Expert

Prof Michael Boyer AM

Michael has been a medical oncologist for more than 20 years, specialising in the treatment of thoracic and head and neck cancers. He was appointed chief clinical officer at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse in 2011. Michael was the director of the Sydney Cancer Centre and former area director of Cancer Services for the Sydney South West Area Health Service. He also has an appointment as a clinical professor within the Central Clinical School of the University of Sydney. He is the conjoint chair of Medical Oncology and Thoracic Oncology at Lifehouse.
