Whilst good anti-smoking campaigns have been successful in reducing the incidence of Lung cancer in Australia, it is still the deadliest cancer in the country. Lung cancer contributes significantly to the burden of disease and years of life lost around the world. Professor Boyer highlights how early diagnosis and treatment is crucial to the best outcomes and cure of the disease. We also learn how, even in patients with advanced disease, new and improved treatments are increasing years of survival beyond that which was previously possible.
