1 in 4 pregnant women experiences early pregnancy bleeding (also known as threatened miscarriage), with the initial presentation often occurring in clinics. Recent research has shown that micronised vaginal progesterone can reduce the risk of miscarriage in women with early pregnancy bleeding and a history of previous miscarriages. In this presentation, Gynaecologist, Prof William Ledger will explain the latest evidence on the role of progesterone, including when, why, how and for whom.
About the Expert
Prof William Ledger
Prof William Ledger is head of discipline of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of New South Wales, the director of reproductive medicine and a senior staff specialist at the Royal Hospital for Women, and a fertility specialist at City Fertility in Sydney.
He is chair of the RANZCOG Research Assessment Committee, a former member of the NHMRC Working Party reviewing national guidelines on ethics and ART, and chair of the MBS Working Party on ART costs. His research interests include in vitro fertilisation, assisted reproduction, reproductive ageing, endometriosis, premature ovarian failure, polycystic ovary syndrome, onco-fertility, and the health economics of infertility
