Monitoring for adverse effects of vaccines is an important clinical responsibility. While minor adverse effects after the Covid vaccines are relatively common, such as localised swelling or a short period of general unwellness, the rare but more serious adverse effects must be kept in mind. This module provides an authoritative and up to date report on the AZ vaccines commonest adverse effects, Thrombocytopenic Thrombosis Syndrome (TTS), as well as the adverse effects associated with the Pfizer vaccine, Myocarditis and Pericarditis. It describes the clinical features and management principles.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe the clinical features of TTS secondary to AZ Covid Vaccine
  • Describe the clinical features of Myocarditis and Pericarditis secondary to Pfizer Covid Vaccine
  • Explain the relative risk of major adverse effects of the AZ and Pfizer vaccines
