GPs and nurses are in a good position to identify patients who are engaging in non-suicidal self-injury. This presentation will equip health professionals with some simple skills to identify possible non-suicidal self-injury, engage in supportive conversations about self-injury and ways to make an appropriate referral.

Expert: Dr Claire Kelly
Dr Claire Kelly is the Manager of Research and Evaluation at Mental Health First Aid Australia and an Honorary Fellow at Deakin University. Dr Kelly has been a provider of education for the public in mental health areas since 2003. She completed a PhD on the mental health literacy of adolescents in Australia and has been working with Mental Health First Aid Australia since 2005 in research, curriculum development and training. Having experienced mental illness in her adolescence and young adulthood, Dr Kelly is passionate about the mental health of young people and has a first-hand understanding of how difficult it is to seek and accept help during these important years.
