What you'll learn in this expert session
Screening and early detection of prostate cancer has changed significantly over the past several years with important implications for patient care. There are now more treatment options for patients, especially for early stage prostate cancer, which means more confusion than ever about what kind of screening and management is considered best practice. Dr Nariman will explain recent developments and how best to interpret options for primary care.
Learning Objectives:
- Outline the routine screening recommendations and early detection methods for groups with high risk of prostate cancer in the community
- Explain the diagnostic pathways to patients and prepare them for screening and examination including pathology, MRI scans, biopsy and staging scans
- Recognise the grades and stages of prostate cancer and identify patients’ risk groups
- Understand the value of a multidisciplinary team that treats patients with prostate cancer, and advocating for shared decision making with patients
