How important is anxiety and how do we know if normal stress is becoming an anxiety disorder? This presentation will address these questions as well as discuss how we classify anxiety and how we can help manage anxiety disorders in children.

About the Expert
Dr Andrew Leech
Dr Andrew Leech is a General Practitioner in Perth, Western Australia. Andrew holds a Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery through the University of Notre Dame in Fremantle, he holds an undergraduate Bachelor of Science and Andrew has achieved the FRACGP fellowship in 2014. He has also completed the Child Health Diploma through the University of Sydney.
Dr Leech is an advisor to Emerging Minds, part of the National Workforce to improve paediatric mental health awareness and training of health professionals in Australia. He co-authored the online course A GP Framework For Child Mental Health Assessment (five to 12 years). He advises and presents mental health training sessions for the RACGP. Dr Leech also works for Headspace Fremantle, consulting young people between the ages of 12 to 25. He trains future doctors at the Notre Dame Medical School and registrars at WAGPET. In 2020, Dr Leech was selected to take part in the RACGP Future Leaders Program and this year is on a WA Health Department Ministerial Taskforce for the Mental Health Commission of WA.
