The role of the diet and adequate nutrition for healing wounds is often overlooked. In fact, healing of wounds may be delayed in patients with poor nutritional status. Leeanne Azzoparadi provides in-depth information on the key nutrients that have been shown to heal wounds in a timely manner. This includes adequate hydration and energy (kilojoules), protein, zinc, vitamin A,vitamin C and arginine.

- Evaluate patients’ nutritional status and ensuring sufficient calories from a balanced diet
- Understand how to regulate and optimise blood glucose levels
- Understand the Increased demand for certain nutrients as protein and caloric deficits must be replaced and micronutrients to be supplemented in patients with malnutrition
- Define when referral to a dietitian is required to ensure that the patient is meeting their calorie and nutritional requirements
