What you'll learn in this expert session

Metabolic syndrome and obesity in children and teenagers - it’s a big problem. Managing overweight or obese children in primary care is challenging to say the least. Health professionals need to identify, manage and monitor weight issues in their paediatric and teenage patients, but metabolic syndrome is often trans-generational, with obesity, poor lifestyle and related diseases often being endemic in these families. Engaging the parents is an important part of the solution - getting them to recognise the problem and then have them become healthy eating and lifestyle role models for their children. In this presentation, A/Prof Gary Leong will describe a realistic, practical and effective approach to managing paediatric obesity in the primary care setting.
