Fever in children has been estimated to contribute up to 25% of presentations in Primary Care and Emergency Departments. It is important to distinguish children that are well with a fever and those that may be at risk of serious illness, requiring treatment in hospital. Dr Michaela Murray discusses the causes, assessment, treatment and referral of Paediatric patients that present with febrile illness with reference to best practice guidelines.

- Assess and monitor a febrile Paediatric patient
- Recognise the signs of serious illness in a febrile child
- Refer high risk patients to the local Emergency department or Paediatrics team
