What you'll learn in this expert session
Improvements in treatment mean that many more patients are living longer with cancer, leading to the new challenge of ensuring they’re able to live well. This presentation outlines the symptoms commonly experienced by patients during and after treatment for various cancers. It then details how holistic supportive care can be used alongside conventional therapies, drawing from various traditions to treat the whole person and achieve the best result for each patient.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand the enhanced supportive care model for cancer patients
- Know the causes of the various types of pain experienced by cancer patients, as well as how these can be treated outside of pharmacotherapy
- Learn how to take a comprehensive medical history to determine the causes of cancer-related fatigue, as well as the efficacy of non-pharmacological treatments
- Identify the most efficacious treatments for peripheral neuropathy from various causes
About the Expert
A/Prof Judith Lacey
A/Prof Judith Lacey is the Head of Supportive Care and Integrative Oncology at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse. She specialises in the development and integration of supportive care interventions to keep people living well with cancer independent of prognosis or stage of disease. Over the past 20 years she has worked extensively with cancer patients and people living with incurable illness. Her area of interest is whole person care: integrating care for people and their families living with cancer or chronic illness that affects their physical and emotional wellbeing.
