What you'll learn in this expert session

One in four women of reproductive age suffer heavy menstrual bleeding, but more often than not, this can be helped.

Heavy menstrual bleeding is very common among women of child-bearing age, and often represents a significant burden to an affected woman's quality of life. Key to effective management is a comprehensive assessment to ensure, not only an accurate diagnosis of the cause of the bleeding, but also to determine the most appropriate treatment options for that individual woman.

In this course, Gynaecologist, Dr Yasmin Tan, presents a systematic, practical approach to managing the woman presenting with heavy menstrual bleeding. From asking the diagnosis-defining details in the history, to being able to explain the range of medical and surgical options currently available to treat this condition.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define Heavy Menstrual Bleeding (HMB) in the context of a woman’s lifestyle
  • Design clinical questions about HMB around the experience of living with the condition
  • Outline the investigations for HMB
  • Identify the medical and surgical treatments for HMB based on presenting features
  • Recognise the situations in which patients with HMB should be referred to a specialist
