What you'll learn in this expert session
High mammographic breast density is an important risk factor for breast cancer and is now routinely reported by BreastScreen in several Australian states. In this talk, Prof Kelly-Anne Phillips will explain what breast density means for individual risk and how results should be interpreted and addressed in the primary care setting. She will also discuss the role of validated tools such as iPrevent, which incorporate breast density and other risk factors, in helping both nurses and patients understand a woman's personal risk and enable the development of a tailored screening and prevention plan that may or may not include referral for genetic testing.
